All humans dream, because we all sleep. This is a fact that we all know. The moment you go deep in your slumber, you start seeing images in your head. How is that possible? How can an image be seen through imagination and they look so real, sometimes they might scare us (Those dreams that scare us are mostly called “Nightmare”). All these questions led to the research on why and how we dream. The Science of Dreaming answers this question scientifically.
For years, people have pondered on the meaning of dreams. There was a theory called Activation-synthesis hypothesis, which states that “Dreams don’t actually mean anything, they are merely electrical brain impulses that pull random thoughts and imagery from our memories”. The Science of Dreaming is a hidden knowledge that has not been explored by most people round the globe. Let’s first and foremost simplified the word “Dream”.
What Is A Dream?
According to Wikipedia.
This is a succession of images, ideas, emotions and sensations that usually occurs involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep.
Wasplight defines dream as “an imaginary image or series of movie we see in our head while we are asleep”. This is an involuntary situation because we don’t control it. The scientific study of dreams is called oneirology. We now know what a dream is why then do we dream? We have to know all these thing so that next time we dream we know the reason it happens.
Why Do We Dream?
Why do we dream is a question that cannot be tackled to everyone’s satisfaction because it is a logical question. Since we have a mind, then that is the main reason we dream. Our mind forms images when we are asleep. Those images are things we think of often.
Another reason why we dream is that The Almighty Creator (God) uses that medium to show things to people as seen in the Holy Book (The Bible) where the Angel of God spoke to Jacob in a dream. (Genesis 31: 11). Now let’s see the Science of Dreaming or the physical meaning that is explained scientifically.
Science of Dreaming
When we sleep, we enter different stages of Sleeping. Dreaming occurs in the Rapid Eye Movement (REM) stage. This is the stage where our eyes moves randomly while still closed. The REM stage is a process where brain activity is very high and looks at if we are awake. What causes the movement of the eye is also a mystery. According to a Professor in ocular physiology David Maurice, he hypothesized that while human sleep, they experience REM in order to supply needed oxygen to the Cornea of the eye. He said “Without REM, our Corneas would starve and suffocate while we are asleep with our eyes closed”.

An individual is able to recall his/her dream if awakened during the REM phase of sleep. The average person has three to five dreams per night. All these are the Science of Dreaming.
This is to draw to the conclusion that Dreaming is natural. Since we have try to expose the word dreaming, you can help us to reach others by sharing this article. Please drop your comments and contribution in the comment section below because they are very vital to us.
