It is another year for the Ballon d’or where the best of all will be crowned. It has been a decade since the two Greatest of all time (GOAT) has been clinching to this great award.
These greatest are Lionel Messi and Christiano Ronaldo. They have collected five Ballons d’Or apiece each. Making them the only players that have won it this number of times.
Both of these Legends failed to perform at their peak in the recent World Cup at Russia. Both of them left the competition in the knock out level. This might marks a new era in the history of Football where these players might not be chosen.
It was announced previously that Luka Modric is the Fifa Best Men Player of the year making him the first apart from Messi and Ronaldo since 2008.
There have been many Nominations for the Ballon d’or 2018 where the likes of many football legends will chose their Winner.
The Possible Choice for Ballon d’or 2018 includes:
Despite him not performing well in the just ended World Cup, he has become people’s favorite. Christiano helped Real Madrid last season to clinch to their 3 in a role Champion League Title, making them the Competition’s favorite. This typhoon left Madrid which left a question of who will replace this Legend at Madrid. He moved to Juventus to help them with the Champion League. Although The Portuguese superstar’s start to the current season hasn’t been quite so stellar, however, only scoring his first Juventus goals in his fourth Serie A appearance.
Can he win the Ballon d’or 2018?
2.) Lionel Messi:
His chance of winning the Ballon d’or 2018 is very slim. Because The Argentine was actually snubbed from the final three-man shortlist for the FIFA Best Men’s Player award, though was included in the FIFA FIFPro XI squad. His start to this season has been a great one, scoring five goals in two matches in the Champion League. Although his team Barcelona is not at the top of the Table, he is still a motivation to them having been the Captain after the departure of Iniesta.
His chances of winning this title is just 2/10. But he will definitely be nominated.
3.) Luka Modric:
When we talk of Croatia reaching the finals in the Previous world cup, we talk of Modric. He has been doing great especially in his National team. He was previously given the title of the UEFA best player of the year and also the FIFA best player of the year. Modric has successfully taken this two awards from his former teammate Ronaldo.
His chances of winning this award is 4/7 making him the most favorite.
Can Luka Modric end the drought of Ballon d’or to other players apart from Messi and Ronaldo?
This 19 year old teen has been incredible. The 19-year-old superstar won the Young Player Award in Russia after scoring four goals (including one in the final). His strike against Croatia made him just the second teenager in history to have scored in a World Cup final after Pele in 1958. He has also been the one of the most rated Attacker.
He is also helping Paris Saint German (PSG). Recently he scored a hat-trick in just 8 minutes.
Chances of winning the Ballon d’or 2018 is small. But Fifa recently reviewed they will include Ballon d’or for teens. Making him the favorite for that.
The Belgium Attacker helped Belgium in the world cup 2018. Helping them secure the third place in the tournament. He is also helping Chelsea in their chase for the Premier league title.
He is another player who is a favourite to win the Ballon d’Or no doubt buoyed by his nation’s World Cup win as well as having scooped up the Man of the Match award in the final game of the tournament.
The Atletico Madrid forward also help his club to lift the UEFA Europa League and also the UEFA Super Cup.
After the likes of Luka Modric, he is the next in line.
These are the main contenders for the award. Other Contenders include Neymar, Salah, Cavani.
Who do you think will be the first player apart from Messi and Ronaldo to take the award? Do you think they will secure it again?
